Bartlett-McWeeney Communications, Ltd., (BMC) was formed in October of 2004 by two very dedicated and visionary women wanting more in terms of broadcasting with a vision not limited to the Bahamas (their country) or the Caribbean but globally. They literally started out on a wing and a prayer in a small office front with five employees. After a year and a half the station has grown to some 40 full time employees both in the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos.
Bartlett-McWeeney Communications, LTD., (BMC) is co-owned by Cyprianna McWeeney (CEO GEMS Radio, Public Relations, Publishing and Finance) and Debbie Bartlett (CEO GEMS Radio, Television and Production). (See Bios). BMC is a registered company in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
In March 2007, the government of the Turks & Caicos Islands led by Premier the Honorable Dr. Michael Misick, awarded BMC the contract to build the first national television station for that country. BMC is the first managing media consultancy firm responsible for studio design, human resource development, training, production and programming services. The contract is a first for any media company in the Caribbean on several fronts. It is the first time that a Bahamian or Caribbean company has been awarded a contract to build and develop a government owned television station. The television station, TCI New Media Network is the first HD television in the Caribbean and among the first in the United States of America. Bartlett and McWeeney attribute the success of the project to the strong support of the GEMS family in the Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Islands. Premier Misick has a global vision and is committed to the empowerment of his people. BMC was mandated to work with local professionals in all aspects of the consultancy services. Special recognition is also given to Entertainment Works and the Global Touch Group.
GEMS IS TAKING OVER THE AIRWAYS:
GEMS 105.9 FM went on air in October 2007 heralding the mission of “Strengthening Our Women and Uplifting Our Men”. Our global vision for this multi-media network is to raise the standard in broadcasting through innovation and motivation.
GEMS Radio (Great Entertainment and Motivational Sounds) is a subsidiary of Bartlett-McWeeney Communications, Ltd and apart of the GEMS New Media Network. Other subsidiaries include GEMS Television, Public Relations, Publishing and Online Services. It is the first multi-media establishment in the Bahamas that can provide e-commerce services.
We at GEMS strive to bring our audience excellence in programming, music, entertainment and news. Our genre of music is easy listening and we pledge not to promote or give air-play to offensive or derogatory lyrics. Therefore, our listening audiences can rest assured that while not a religious station, GEMS 105.9 provides inspiration and hope through our discussions and music twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
We are proud to announce that GEMS 105.9 has covered at least six major live events in the United States and the Turks and Caicos Islands. The events included the Martin Luther King Day in Atlanta, Georgia, The Trumpet Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 2007 General Election in the Turks and Caicos Islands and the 75th birthday celebrations of Ambassador Andrew Young whose special guests included former President Bill Clinton and Maya Angelou. The GEMS family also made history when the multi-media company formalized its affiliate relationship with the Sheridan Broadcasting & American Urban Radio Networks. The relationship authorizes GEMS News reporters to file reports on the network to their listening audience of 30 million listeners and receive reports from the networks. Another milestone was etched in history when GEMS signed a partnership agreement with the Nassau Junkanoo Corporation to promote Junkanoo products online.
